Dr Banguti is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Rwanda and a Consultant for Human Resources and Mortality surveillance at the Ministry of Health of Rwanda.
Dr Banguti is a Countrywide mentor and supportive supervisor awarded by the WFSA for his innovation “Anesthesia Practice Network (APN) for education project” which has improved collaboration and safe anesthesia practice among physicians and non-physician anesthetists in Rwandan hospitals.
As senior academic faculty, Dr Banguti’s research interests and contribution to science focus specifically on improvement of perioperative outcome through education and training on safe anesthesia practices, operational research to improve anesthesia and critical care, and implementation of standardized protocols and checklists.

Dr Banguti’s current projects (as co-investigator and site principal investigator) include:
1. A randomized control study of: “High-dose intravenous vitamin C as an adjunctive treatment for sepsis in Rwanda: a feasibility trial.”
2.The Lacuna Grant to implement: Machine Learning Datasets for Better Healthcare Outcomes
Over the past 15 years, Dr Banguti has occupied different leadership and academic positions including Chief Resident, Programme Coordinator, Continuous Professional Developments (CPDs) Director, Head of Department, School Postgraduate Programs Coordinator, Associate professor, and Chair of the Rwanda Society of Anesthesiologists (RSA).
Dr Banguti is currently actively involved in Teaching, Research, mentorship and academic leadership in Rwanda.
Dr. Livingston is an associate professor of anesthesia at the Department of Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine, Dalhousie University. She is an Honourary Associate Professor at the University of Rwanda. She is active in medical education and research at both Dalhousie University and the University of Rwanda. Her work in Rwanda has included anesthesia curriculum development, establishment of a simulation and skills centre and introduction to the country of the Safer Anesthesia from Education (SAFE) Obstetric Anesthesia Course. Dr Livingston is an author and director of Vital Anaesthesia Simulation Training (VAST). She has received the inaugural Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Humanitarian Award and has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada for her work in medical education and global health.
Dr Françoise Nizeyimana is the current program director of the only anesthesiology residency program in Rwanda and the Head of department of anesthesia and Critical Care at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK). She obtained her WFSA sponsored pediatric fellowship in Kenya in 2018 following training as an anesthesia residency from the University of Rwanda health sciences program where she obtained her MMed degree in anesthesia and critical care medicine. She is also one of only three Rwandese pediatric anesthesiology specialist in the country. With an interest in training, she has participated in training the trainer models involving Leadership, gender equality, and safe pediatrics. She is married with three children.
