The All Africa Anesthesia Congress (AAAC) is hosted every two years by the African Regional Section (ARS) of World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) and a member national society. Rwanda has been selected to host the first Congress since 2019. The AAAC provides an international venue for promoting the best of clinical care, research and education and for building professional relationships in the field of anesthesiology. In addition to a broad scientific program, the meeting hosts a Health Care Industry (HCI) Exhibition and various social events, including a conference dinner, accompanying persons program and opening and closing ceremonies. Industry support is expected to mitigate costs but as many registrants will be from less economically developed countries, cost containment and careful financial stewardship will be necessary. Attracting delegates from 54+ countries, the AAAC is unique in terms of global reach and diversity, offering an outstanding scientific and social experience for all who attend. The Rwanda Society of Anesthesiologists (RSA) anticipates that the AAAC 2022 could attract 1,000 to 2,000 delegates. These figures are an estimate based on past attendances at similar anaesthetic meetings.

Chairman, AAAC OC
It is a great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 8th All Africa Anesthesia Congress (AAAC) to be held in Kigali, Rwanda from 07th to 10th September 2022. This is a joint meeting between the Rwanda Society of Anesthesiologists (RSA) and the Africa Regional Section (ARS) of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) whose objectives are to make available the highest standards of anesthesia, pain treatment, trauma management and resuscitation to all peoples of the world. After the Covid-19 pandemic, our organizing committee has put together a comprehensive relevant program that will drive you on innovation and rejuvenation in the post-pandemic era in anesthesia, pain medicine and intensive care. Lectures, industry symposia and workshops will encourage interaction between participants and ensure, quite literally, something for everyone.
As AAAC crosses Africa, we excitedly anticipated a wonderful occasion to bring all the international practitioners of our specialty together. Regardless of our backgrounds and resources may be very different, we all face similar problems and challenges in providing the very best care to our patients. AAAC is an outstanding anesthesia congress and only takes place every two years. We will have different scientific lectures prepared by experts in each field, which aim is to provide global and scientific contents that are also clinically relevant with a strong practical emphasis. I hope that you will consider not only your attendance but also your participation in providing and submitting scientific abstracts for presentation and discussion with colleagues and peers in your field.
Rwanda, known as a land of thousand hills, is a safe, well organized country that has implemented a robust and transparent response to the pandemic. Centuries of music, dance, history and hospitality are waiting for you in our country. While it might have been the gorillas that entice you to Rwanda, it’s their people who will keep you coming back.
Dr Philippe Mavoungou
WFSA Council Member
Vice-president of the board of the ARS
The Africa Regional Section (ARS) of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists congratulates the Rwanda Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care on its decision to take up the challenge of organizing the 8th All Africa Anesthesia Congress 2022 in Kigali in the post-pandemic era: it is an exceptional opportunity to bring together anesthesia providers from all over the Africa continent, to share experiences and to look forward to a future that is rich with old and still unresolved challenges – such as the problem of human resources, both quantitative and qualitative, as well as optimizing the supply of drug resources and equipment with the new perspectives offered by technology.
The WFSA Africa Regional Section currently includes 32 national anesthesia societies. It should be noted that 55 countries are members of the African Union. In fact, the WFSA Africa Regional Section is already the largest regional section of this Federation. It is certainly the Regional Section that also presents the most complex situations. Within the framework of the partnership of the WFSA with the large international organizations in particular the WHO, the Africa Regional Section of the WFSA is regularly present and makes the advocacy of anesthesia at this forum.
This congress should be the place for in-depth reflection on the issues of anesthesia and critical care on the continent. Anesthesiologists from all countries of the continent are invited to participate actively in this Congress.
“Rejuvenation and innovation in this post-pandemic period”: this are the ambition of this congress that we wish to achieve with all of you!
Good luck at the 8th Congress of the WFSA Africa Regional Section!
